The Vikings treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 230th overall pick on Fabien Lovett a full 117 spots early. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Rosemy-Jacksaint steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, reach and all.
A tidy little value on Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 10, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Michael Pratt in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, MarShawn Lloyd at pick No. 130 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dallin Holker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint slipping to the 157th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, LaDarius Henderson went about where he belonged in No. 166. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Curtis Jacobs in the 179th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Myles Cole at slot 227 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Fabien Lovett this early at Round 7, Pick 10. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
