The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Cam Skattebo slide 75 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
They will need Howard to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a downhill hitter at safety at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 95th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A big swing on Will Howard at Round 3, Pick 33, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Hayden Conner at No. 120 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cam Skattebo at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid up for Seth McLaughlin at slot 195 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylin Smith well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
