More right than wrong for the Vikings, and a B to prove it.

You build a draft on nights like this. Isaiah Neyor had no business being available in the 230th overall pick, and the Vikings did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

Reaching for Nugent left real value on the table behind him. Spending an early pick on cornerback with running back and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.23 · Pick 23 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 14
In the 23rd overall pick they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 43
By-the-book stuff, J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 42 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 57
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in No. 58. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 64
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 78th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 133
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drake Nugent well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 119
They bypassed pressing needs at running back and tight end to take Kris Abrams-Draine, a cornerback that was not the priority.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · James Williams · S · rank 128
James Williams in Round 5, Pick 12 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 155
Darius Robinson at pick 160 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 160
A reasonable price with a little left over, Layden Robinson in the 165th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Justin Walley · CB · rank 170
Nice patience on Justin Walley, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Isaiah Neyor · WR · rank 207
They will replay Isaiah Neyor at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.16 · Pick 236 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 220
A quiet steal in pick No. 236: Dwight McGlothern for less than the market said. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
