You can hear the double-takes from here. The Vikings took Evan Anderson at slot 214, roughly 59 spots before his name belonged.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Jones value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Brandon Dorlus in the 51st overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jalen McMillan at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Darius Robinson at pick No. 108 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Cole Bishop went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach on Joe Milton III in Round 5, Pick 12; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 158 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Jaylan Ford at Round 5, Pick 24 when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Austin Booker, who had no business lasting to No. 165. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Evan Anderson at slot 214 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Myles Jones still on the board at pick 230. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
