You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Raiders did exactly that with Rylie Mills in the 235th pick. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in pick 46. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylin Simpson at Round 3, Pick 14 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Zach Frazier in slot 114 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on MarShawn Lloyd, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Jaylan Ford at par in the 192nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
A big swing on Rylie Mills at Round 7, Pick 15, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
