The Raiders bet big and early on Collin Oliver, 80 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Brooks. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside. A real need, handled.
Tyler Booker in slot 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Darien Porter at pick No. 58 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jayden Higgins in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Jalen Milroe in pick 89; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Skattebo in No. 108. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Malachi Moore in the 143rd pick, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nothing to complain about; Jack Nelson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tahj Brooks in slot 213 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Collin Oliver in Round 6, Pick 39 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Isaac TeSlaa enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 222. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
