Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Vikings came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Jordan reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
With quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Kalen King at pick No. 42 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. still on the board at Round 3, Pick 24. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Michael Hall Jr. at pick 108 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jarrian Jones while clear needs at quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots sat open.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker with quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots open.
A tidy bit of business in slot 148, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Nice patience on Jaylin Simpson, who had no business lasting to the 160th overall pick. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah Davis at No. 165, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Jawhar Jordan in pick No. 179, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Nathaniel Watson at Round 7, Pick 10, value and slot in agreement. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Value with a capital V on Mark Perry in pick 245, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
