Call it larceny. Caelen Carson sat on the board until pick 109, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice.
The Jones pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with offensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots still on the board. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value.
The board fumbled Bo Nix all the way to pick 42, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Caelen Carson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jarrian Jones while clear needs at offensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
Jalyx Hunt is a better player than the 145th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Braelon Allen in slot 157 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Khristian Boyd in No. 166, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Kitan Oladapo, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Jordan Magee for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
