Good, not great, for the Eagles: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Arik Gilbert in the 246th overall pick.

A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.21 · Pick 21 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 14
In the 21st pick they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 59 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 113
Gabriel Murphy at slot 97 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · James Williams · S · rank 129
James Williams in Round 4, Pick 33 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 137
Jaheim Bell at pick No. 137 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 159
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Washington. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 166
A straight-up fair deal on Frank Gore Jr. at Round 5, Pick 26, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 179
Justin Eboigbe in pick 178 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 236
The board had cheaper options than Miles Frazier at pick No. 225, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · J.J. Weaver · LB-EDGE · rank 223
J.J. Weaver is a better player than the 231st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Arik Gilbert · TE · rank 267
Arik Gilbert in the 246th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
