The war room fell hard for Tyler Harrell, and it showed at No. 231: 156 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Smith-Wade value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 16, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Christian Mahogany at par in pick No. 77, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Travis in the 113th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Cam Hart, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 155, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking Chau Smith-Wade in the 190th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in the 221st pick: Christian Jones for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyler Harrell well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steele Chambers in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
