There is conviction, and then there is this. The Raiders took Braden Fiske a full 71 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mitchell. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the 14th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dallas Turner at the 46th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Amarius Mims at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Quinyon Mitchell was still sitting there in pick 114, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Devontez Walker. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylan Ford at Round 6, Pick 17 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A big swing on Braden Fiske at the 235th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
