Some picks age like wine; Ja'Corey Brooks at pick 242 will need to, sitting 45 spots clear of his grade. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in the 24th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a matchup problem out wide, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jonathon Brooks at pick 53 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Jaheim Bell at No. 95, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Edwards this early at the 121st overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Devontez Walker in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Devin Neal at No. 158 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sam Hartman at the 240th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ja'Corey Brooks well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
