The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
On value alone, McGlothern makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The cost of the Suamataia reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
The board had cheaper options than Kingsley Suamataia at the 44th overall pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Matt Goncalves went about where he belonged in No. 112. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Isaiah Davis in Round 5, Pick 12 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Dwight McGlothern in slot 208, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ryan Flournoy at pick No. 223 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Trevin Wallace at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
