They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: DeMonte Capehart, 54 picks early at the 221st pick.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Hart makes the weekend a net positive.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They went early on T'Vondre Sweat in No. 44, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Christian Haynes at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Cam Hart was the payoff at the 147th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Justin Rogers at pick No. 165 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaiah Williams a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
DeMonte Capehart at Round 7, Pick 1 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Matthew Jones in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
