The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, in Round 6, Pick 41.
Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at No. 44. A minor need, but a need all the same.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tyler Booker reach pick 63 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Benjamin Morrison at slot 73 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Malachi Moore at safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
Quinshon Judkins in pick No. 116 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Barrett Carter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jack Bech at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Lathan Ransom was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 23, and they pounced on premier safety value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Kevin Winston Jr. in the 169th pick, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 178 is the definition of value, full stop. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Mason Taylor at slot 202 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cody Simon at Round 6, Pick 37 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Cam Skattebo in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Jeffrey Bassa in the 222nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Steal is underselling it; Jonah Monheim at pick No. 227 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Karene Reid all the way to No. 249, and they scooped it up. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
