The one they had to fix is still broken. The Raiders left edge rusher untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Trotter Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in slot 53, where Keon Coleman graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Jeremiah Trotter Jr. still on the board at No. 77. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nothing to complain about; Ray Davis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sataoa Laumea slid further than he should have, and the 128th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Tommy Eichenberg in pick 147, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Dillon Johnson at the 150th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 207, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Ryan Cooper Jr. in the 223rd overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Josh Proctor slipping to slot 229 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
