The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Every board in the league had Jones lower, and that gap is the story. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Braden Fiske at pick 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They let Kris Abrams-Draine come to them and pounced at the 91st pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had cheaper options than Isaac Guerendo at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Mohamed Kamara at No. 129 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steal is underselling it; Cornelius Johnson at Round 6, Pick 33 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Matthew Jones at slot 223 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
