Boards are made to be trusted, and the Raiders shredded theirs for Jay Higgins. He came off 35 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Emmanwori steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nick Emmanwori in pick 37. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Fair-plus on Omarion Hampton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 56th overall pick, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy little value on Dylan Sampson in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deone Walker in pick No. 73. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Denzel Burke in No. 107 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Will Howard at the 108th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jay Higgins in pick No. 144, miles early. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
The board had Jordan Hancock higher than pick 206, and the safety fell to them anyway. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
