The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Jay Higgins, 39 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Milroe where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The Raiders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Nick Emmanwori come to them and pounced at the 37th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kenneth Grant in slot 38. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at Round 2, Pick 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nothing to complain about; Dylan Sampson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Zy Alexander in pick No. 73; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Donovan Jackson still on the board at pick 107. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a quarterback like Jalen Milroe reach the 127th overall pick and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at Round 5, Pick 5, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Jay Higgins, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
