The trade table was where it all came apart. The Raiders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. If Rice pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They banked enough surplus on Davis to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Brenden Rice at the 72nd overall pick, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Haynes at pick 77, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Junior Colson in slot 112, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid a round early for Keith Randolph Jr. in the Round 5 slot, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Barrett. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Isaiah Davis in the 234th overall pick, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
