You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Raiders did exactly that with Jordan Travis in the Round 4 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Torrence value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach on Braden Fiske in pick No. 44; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Spencer Rattler at pick 77, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Jordan Travis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on Dylan Laube in the 148th pick, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ro Torrence at No. 208 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Trevin Wallace at the 223rd overall pick, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Bub Means at the 229th pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
