They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop.
Reaching for McCarthy left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a passer to set the clock by, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
They paid up for T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 12 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cooper Beebe at slot 77 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take James Williams this early at pick 112. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cam Hart at the 150th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Jones at pick No. 190, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dwight McGlothern. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
