You could see the war room lean forward. Duce Chestnut at the 249th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They are betting Stogner proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Kamari Lassiter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kingsley Suamataia in pick 60. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Will Shipley. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on J. Michael Sturdivant in Round 5, Pick 1, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Billy Bowman Jr. in the 156th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in No. 172, where Jaylan Ford graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They liked Austin Stogner enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 224. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Duce Chestnut at pick No. 249 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
