Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Zakhari Franklin, the No. 223 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting Cooper proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 50 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Brandon Dorlus in the 59th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Zak Zinter in the 97th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fair-plus on Kamal Hadden, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braelon Allen in No. 156. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Andrew Coker at slot 172 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Michael Barrett in Round 6, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Zakhari Franklin at pick 248 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
