Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Zakhari Franklin got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at No. 246.

The Barrett pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · JC Latham · OT · rank 18
JC Latham at No. 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 40
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Ladd McConkey worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 46
Nice patience on T.J. Tampa, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 25. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 100
Will Shipley at the 97th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.19 · Pick 155 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 136
Taking Mike Sainristil in the 155th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 149
They let Cole Bishop come to them and pounced at pick 157. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 192
A wild overpay on Michael Barrett in pick No. 172, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 186
Trey Knox at slot 178 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.20 · Pick 195 · Ben Bywater · LB · rank 184
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ben Bywater in No. 195. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Zakhari Franklin · WR · rank 215
Zakhari Franklin in slot 246 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
