There is reaching, and then there is Brady Cook at pick 166. The Eagles jumped the board by 88 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The Starks value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 30 they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
They barely believed it either: Malaki Starks still on the board at the 62nd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They liked Dontay Corleone enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 94. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tight end of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dani Dennis-Sutton at pick 161 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brady Cook this early at slot 166. A need, and now a little less of one.
