Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Oronde Gadsden II at the 137th pick is 56 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
Guyton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 64 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Princely Umanmielen at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in slot 97. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Andrew Mukuba went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Oronde Gadsden II. The roster fit checks out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Will Shipley in the 147th pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyler Guyton in pick 178 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They read the board right and Carson Steele was the payoff at slot 244. A need, and now a little less of one.
Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
