Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Devonshire pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Boyd reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Cedric Gray at par in Round 4, Pick 8, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Sataoa Laumea at pick 129 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Marist Liufau went about where he belonged in the 158th pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board had cheaper options than Khristian Boyd at pick No. 167, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Walter Rouse at No. 177 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tylan Grable in slot 230 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled M.J. Devonshire all the way to pick No. 232, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Sundell. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
