After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Taylor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. James at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
In the 30th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 77th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on DeWayne Carter, who had no business lasting to No. 114. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
James Williams at slot 148 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on Trey Taylor at pick No. 208, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 3; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Eyabi Okie-Anoma in pick 229 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
