The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That James pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 44 with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
DJ James at pick No. 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing DeWayne Carter in the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
