The real work happened on the phones. The Raiders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
They will need Williams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
That Hart pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
J.J. McCarthy in the 44th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Johnny Wilson in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into James Williams at slot 112, and the board did not agree. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Hart in Round 5, Pick 14. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Braelon Allen in No. 158, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Proctor in pick No. 186. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
By-the-book stuff, Eric Gentry at the 234th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They took Dwight McGlothern at par in pick 249, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
