They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Luke Lachey, 25 picks early at No. 81. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Rome Odunze in pick No. 9 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
In the 17th overall pick they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Newton. A minor itch, scratched.
Troy Franklin at No. 41 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Mekhi Wingo at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Christian Mahogany at slot 73 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Luke Lachey at the 81st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Adisa Isaac in Round 4, Pick 3 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Payton Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 133. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
