The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Charles Grant, the No. 99 name on the board, sitting there at the 128th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Aireontae Ersery come to them and pounced at pick No. 57. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Amos in No. 60. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaxson Dart at pick 74 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dylan Sampson at slot 91 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Barrett Carter in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Donovan Jackson reach the 107th overall pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Sebastian Castro at the 116th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They robbed the room for Ozzy Trapilo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Charles Grant in pick No. 128 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
