They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Frank Gore Jr., 97 picks early at pick 129.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. However the rest shakes out, Wiley at that price is a win they earned.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 25 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 28. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Hart in pick 108. It adds depth where they could use a little.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Frank Gore Jr. in the 129th overall pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
They reached a country mile for Layden Robinson at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Tommy Eichenberg all the way to pick No. 167, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ro Torrence. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They robbed the room for Jared Wiley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Solomon Byrd in the 232nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
