Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Isaiah Williams, the No. 198 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 7 slot. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Sweat has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They jumped the gun on T'Vondre Sweat, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at pick 77 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 113, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had cheaper options than Braelon Allen at the 147th pick, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Jones at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Isaiah Williams in pick No. 221 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jawhar Jordan at slot 231 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
