The Cardinals went off the board in a big way for Joshua Gray, 77 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Adding Najee Harris by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mondon Jr..
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 18 they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
T'Vondre Sweat in slot 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Kris Jenkins in Round 2, Pick 18; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Cooper DeJean come to them and pounced at the 68th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 71; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Christian Haynes in Round 3, Pick 18, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Roman Wilson in No. 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 141 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
Joshua Gray at pick 163 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
