The Cardinals clearly saw something nobody else did in Tommy Eichenberg, taking him 43 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 4
In the 4th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 24
In the 21st pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 37
They took Keon Coleman at par in slot 34, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 65
No edge and no loss on Kamren Kinchens in pick 66; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Jack Sawyer · DE-EDGE · rank 67
Good price on Jack Sawyer in Round 3, Pick 6, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 128
They talked themselves into Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 107
Audric Estime at pick No. 102 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Cameron Ward · QB · rank 145
They went early on Cameron Ward in slot 133, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 142
Tyler Guyton in pick 139 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 146
A quiet steal in No. 163: Cedric Gray for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 180
A reach for Gabe Hall in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 174
Ainias Smith at the 198th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Erick All · TE · rank 233
A conviction pick on Erick All at the 223rd overall pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 218
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bryson Nesbit at Round 7, Pick 6. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
