Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals won the night they stopped Pearsall from sliding. Grade: B-.

When a board-topper like Ricky Pearsall slides to No. 225, you do not overthink it, and the Cardinals did not. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Reaching for Chestnut left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Malik Nabers · WR · rank 4
In No. 4 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.17 · Pick 17 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 37
They took Nate Wiggins at par in pick 36, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Jack Sawyer · DE-EDGE · rank 75
No edge and no loss on Jack Sawyer in the 68th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 79
A conviction pick on Ruke Orhorhoro at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · McKinnley Jackson · DL · rank 82
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 103
Devontez Walker in pick No. 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 139
No drama and no debate, Beaux Limmer went about where he belonged in slot 133. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 144
Payton Wilson in the 141st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 156
Good price on Javion Cohen in No. 163, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Duce Chestnut · CB · rank 206
Duce Chestnut at the 190th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 200
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 225 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Francisco Mauigoa · LB · rank 224
Francisco Mauigoa at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
