Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals let Walker fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Devontez Walker had no business being available in slot 133, and the Cardinals did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Cardinals had louder needs to answer first.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 13
In No. 17 they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 36
By-the-book stuff, Kris Abrams-Draine at Round 2, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 55
A quiet steal in pick 67: Cooper Beebe for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 78
They bypassed pressing needs at running back, tight end and other spots to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 91
Zach Frazier at the 103rd overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 103
The board fumbled Devontez Walker all the way to slot 133, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 138
Jordan Travis at the 140th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 154
Cole Bishop slid further than he should have, and pick No. 165 is lovely value for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Jacob Cowing · WR · rank 182
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jacob Cowing at the Round 6 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.4 · Pick 224 · Joshua Gray · OT · rank 238
A reach on Joshua Gray in the 224th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Willie Roberts · CB · rank 206
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 227 is the definition of value, full stop. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
