Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals turned the phones into found money: B.

The Cardinals ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Rogers lower, and that gap is the story.

With quarterback, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 30
A straight-up fair deal on Quinyon Mitchell at No. 27, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
In pick No. 30 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 37
Bralen Trice in the 35th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 75
They paid a round early for Johnny Wilson in slot 66, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 83
Good price on Roman Wilson in pick 90, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 120
A surprising call. With quarterback, running back and other spots still to address, they spent the 104th overall pick on Kris Abrams-Draine, a cornerback they were not short of.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Justin Rogers · DL · rank 161
Value said wait; Justin Rogers in Round 4, Pick 33 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
