You build a draft on nights like this. Braelon Allen had no business being available in the 173rd overall pick, and the Cardinals did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while tight end and interior defensive lineman went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

If Eboigbe pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In the 4th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 23
Good price on Keon Coleman in pick 27, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 40
They paid sticker price for T.J. Tampa in slot 35, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 66
By-the-book stuff, Javon Bullard at pick No. 66 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper Beebe in No. 81. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 87
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 27. Tight end and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 123
Justin Eboigbe at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 114
No edge and no loss on Ainias Smith in the 115th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 127
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Cole Bishop while clear needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman sat open.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 145
A straight-up fair deal on Javion Cohen at the 140th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
A running back of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Andru Phillips · CB · rank 167
You do not let a cornerback like Andru Phillips reach pick 188 and blink. They did not. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 222
A clean, defensible pick in No. 225 with a little surplus value in Steele Chambers. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Darius Muasau · LB · rank 215
A slide stopped in slot 227, with Darius Muasau worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.18 · Pick 238 · Phil Jurkovec · QB · rank 227
Phil Jurkovec at pick No. 238 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
