Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals let McCoy fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

The Cardinals did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Bru McCoy fell into the 226th overall pick.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Malik Nabers · WR · rank 4
In No. 4 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 12
In the 21st overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 23
They read the board right and Bralen Trice was the payoff at slot 35. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 53
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Patrick Paul at the Round 3 slot is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 72
They took Byron Murphy II at par in pick No. 74, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Jalen McMillan · WR · rank 88
They paid sticker price for Jalen McMillan in Round 3, Pick 22, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 81
The board fumbled Trey Benson all the way to pick 104, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 120
Kris Abrams-Draine slid further than he should have, and the 133rd pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 136
Good price on Mike Sainristil in the 140th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Jacob Cowing · WR · rank 178
Jacob Cowing at Round 6, Pick 8 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Aki Ogunbiyi · OG · rank 181
Aki Ogunbiyi in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Joshua Gray · OT · rank 199
They will replay Joshua Gray at pick No. 225 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Bru McCoy · WR · rank 188
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 226 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 202
Curtis Jacobs at No. 227 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
