The Cardinals put a flag in the ground for Jason Henderson, 57 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Franklin. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman went begging.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 16 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 17 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Kris Abrams-Draine went about where he belonged in the 35th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Troy Fautanu in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Troy Franklin was still sitting there in the 67th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves interior defensive lineman untouched.
Danny Stutsman at the 103rd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked James Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
Cade Stover in Round 4, Pick 32 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cody Schrader at slot 133 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Mike Sainristil, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
By-the-book stuff, Tre Harris at No. 165 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Milton III. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Bryce Foster at pick 224 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Jason Henderson at the 227th overall pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
