It is the swing that defines the weekend: Keilan Robinson in the 245th pick, a good 89 spots before the room expected him.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Williams.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quinyon Mitchell slipping to pick No. 42 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Beaux Limmer at slot 108 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Keith Randolph Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for James Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Andru Phillips. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Nothing to complain about; Roger Rosengarten went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Isaiah Davis at slot 179 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in the 213th overall pick: Myles Jones for less than the market said. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board had cheaper options than Xavier Thomas at pick No. 230, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Keilan Robinson in No. 245 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
