Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Reaching for Sweat left real value on the table behind him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kamren Kinchens at the 40th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, T'Vondre Sweat well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on James Williams in pick No. 130; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Javion Cohen in pick 148 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Austin Booker in slot 160. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Grayson Murphy went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 30. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a cornerback like Chau Smith-Wade reach the 179th overall pick and blink. They did not. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Myles Jones at pick 230 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
