Call it belief, call it a gut call, but DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 190 is 75 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a load in the middle. A real need, handled.
T.J. Tampa in the 44th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zak Zinter at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Layden Robinson this early at pick 112. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 2; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They read the board right and Braelon Allen was the payoff at slot 159. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 190, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mark Perry slid further than he should have, and No. 243 is lovely value for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
