Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals lost the trade table, and the C tells the story.

The Cardinals went off the board in a big way for Korey Foreman, 95 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. It is not that Burke is a bad player; it is that the Cardinals had louder needs to answer first.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Suamataia.

So much rides on Jared Verse that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Jared Verse · DE-EDGE · rank 21
In No. 17 they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.22 · Pick 22 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 22
In pick No. 22 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 54
They reached into another round for Cooper DeJean, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Denzel Burke · CB · rank 55
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Denzel Burke adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback and interior defensive lineman untouched.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 114
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Roman Wilson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 50
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kingsley Suamataia reach Round 3, Pick 6 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 161
Will Shipley at No. 81 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 146
They reached a country mile for Devontez Walker at the 85th overall pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.23 · Pick 86 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 80
A tidy little value on Amarius Mims in slot 86, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Korey Foreman · DL-EDGE · rank 206
Korey Foreman at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 124
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tommy Eichenberg at the 133rd pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Jamon Dumas-Johnson · LB · rank 132
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick 139 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Antwaun Powell-Ryland · DL-EDGE · rank 155
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 148 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Benjamin Yurosek · TE · rank 237
Benjamin Yurosek at Round 5, Pick 38 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Joshua Gray · OT · rank 215
A reach on Joshua Gray in No. 198; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Aki Ogunbiyi · OG · rank 253
Aki Ogunbiyi at the 223rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 223
Cody Schrader at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Silas Bolden · WR · rank 277
They left a pile of value on the table to take Silas Bolden this early at the 255th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
