You can hear the double-takes from here. The Vikings took Michael Barrett at pick No. 163, roughly 29 spots before his name belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Davis pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 42 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Cade Stover in the 108th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Travis at the 128th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Darius Robinson in Round 5, Pick 12; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Barrett at pick 163 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor itch, scratched.
They liked Justin Eboigbe enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 164. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Jones. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah Davis in No. 230 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
