You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Texans did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The Ulofoshio pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with running back still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a ballhawk on the back end, reach and all. More want than need.
They paid a round early for Ja'Tavion Sanders in Round 2, Pick 7, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
T'Vondre Sweat at the 47th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Cooper Beebe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Roman Wilson in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 123 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Christian Jones at pick 163, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Dwight McGlothern in slot 239 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
