The Eagles clearly saw something nobody else did in Peny Boone, taking him 137 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
The Skattebo pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 31 they get a red-zone target to build around, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Value said wait; Nazir Stackhouse in pick 139 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Barrett Carter in Round 5, Pick 8, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Chris Paul Jr. in the 160th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Tonka Hemingway in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A wild overpay on Barryn Sorrell in the 163rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Phil Mafah at the 164th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Collin Oliver in pick 166 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Brant Kuithe at pick No. 177 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jasheen Davis at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Jared Wilson in No. 198; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Steven Parker at Round 6, Pick 26, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Truss in the 207th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Stone Handy in slot 211, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Thor Griffith at the 214th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Jeffrey Bassa here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They reached a country mile for Peny Boone at the 227th pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Skattebo at pick No. 243 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Trevor Etienne still on the board at pick 256. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
